Det finns förvisso ett par andra fåglar som äts, men kycklingen är den mest populära. Den finns både som hel kyckling, lår, vingar, nuggets och mycket annat. Kycklingen kan tillagas i oändliga variationer. Men är det egentligen ett så bra kött? Här tar vi upp den svenska kycklingen och dess uppfödning.

De svenska kycklingarnas liv

Kycklingarna i Sverige föds upp på ett kläckeri. Därifrån fraktas de sedan till stora hallar där de föds upp. Undantaget är mindre uppfödningar av ekologiska kycklingar. Kycklingarna är vid ungefär 6 veckors ålder tillräckligt stora för att slaktas. De växer fort eftersom att de får mycket tillskott och annat i sitt foder. Protein är övervägande och det kommer främst från soya som importeras till Sverige.

Är kycklingkött bra?

Kycklingkött är relativt bra för människan men sett till klimat och djurskydd är köttet inte fullt lika bra. Varje år får länsstyrelsen larm om att kycklingar inte tas omhand på rätt sätt och ofta stämmer anklagelserna. Kycklingarna får bo flera stycken på en kvadratmeter och det är inte ovanligt att de pickar på varandra, går i avföring eller skadas när deras inhägnader rengörs med automatiska grepar.
